The Buffalo Institute for Contemporary Art is accepting applications from artists working in Buffalo and Erie County for grants and funding proposals for the current cycle of The Generator Fund through September 30, 2026.
The BICA Generator Fund is part of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts Regional Regranting Program, designed to reach artists, experimental collectives, independent organizers, and practitioners in Buffalo and Erie County whose work often falls outside traditional funding models. On their website, BICA refers to the fund, “The Fund is grounded in a simple but increasingly rare premise: that visual artists deserve support to develop their practices, pursue ambitious ideas, and make great work.”
Founded in 2023, The Generator Fund supports projects that are public-facing, community-engaged, and materially inventive, but it is not prescriptive about the outcomes. Instead of framing art as a means to an end, the Fund creates space for artists to take risks, explore process, and push creative boundaries on their own terms.
To date, the Generator Fund has awarded over 50 grants, supporting exhibitions, performances, workshops, publications, gardens, sound works, and new artist-run spaces. Grants of up $5,000 and $10,000 are available through the program. Applications for the BICA Generator Fund are open through September 30, 2026 via generatorfund.org.
A free information session with representatives from BICA will be held in The Jerry & Barbara Castiglia Art Center on Roycroft Campus on Saturday, September 12. BICA will present details and information and answer questions for artists considering this opportunity.
